TULSA — Late in 2019, a new form of the human coronavirus was discovered in China. The virus, and the disease it causes, now dubbed “COVID-19,” spread rapidly. Some areas of the world have been especially hard-hit, including South Korea and Italy. Basic precautions used to reduce the spread of influenza can also protect people from COVID-19. It is generally considered a serious, but survivable viral infection. Fatalities generally occur in older people (aged 70+) and in those with underlying health problems.
