Part of Tulsa river trail closed on west side for more than two years

Closed for construction access for new low-water dam

river trail detour

Bad news if you like to use the recreation trail on the west side of the Arkansas River.

It’s closed down for 28 months, between 23rd street and 36th street, so that trucks and equipment can get access to build the new low-water dam on Zink Lake.

Matt Meyer with the Tulsa Riverparks Authority says it’s the only place that really makes sense.

“It has to be somewhere and the east bank is where the world-class Gathering Place is, well, that’s not feasible, so it has to be here,” Meyer said.

In the meantime, if you still want to use the west trail, they’ve got a detour that will take you around the construction zone.

You can find a map of the detour here.
